by Alpa
(Austin, TX)

Hi Amelia,
My name is Alpa. My FSH level on Day 3 is 10.5 I am 30 years old. We have been trying to conceive for 5 years. Nothing has happened.

My progesterone level is always normal after ovulating. Last time my progesterone level was 21. I have regular cycles. My cycle is always 23-24 days long. I never miss a period. What do you suggest in my case? Please help me.

Waiting to hear from you...
Alpa

FSH is not Everything!
by: Amelia Hirota

Hi Alpa,
FSH is not everything. It is not an accurate measure of fertility or even of ovarian reserve. However, your FSH level of 10.5 is absolutely fine.

I'm glad that you shared your progesterone level of 21. That is fantastic. It's nice to know that you're definitely ovulating.

There are 2 distinct possibilities in your case. It might be that the sperm is not fertilizing an egg. What is the count, motility, forward progression and morphology? Or, your luteal phase may be too short. What day are you ovulating?

With your short cycle, you'd have to be ovulating around Day 10 or your cycle to have a luteal phase of 12 days. Please read more about charting at http://www.the-fertility-acupuncturist.com/fertility-calendars.html and consider taking my charting teleclass. More FSH Questions
by: Amelia Hirota

Hi Amelia,
We did two IUI cycles, but nothing happened. I usually ovulate around the 11th or 12th day of my cycle. My husband's semen volume is 3 ml, progressive motility is 33%, and normal morphology is 24%. The total count is 117 million.

On a previous IUI cycle, my husband's pre-preparation results were: volume 3 ml, total count 66 million, progressive motility 45%, normal morphology 22%.

Please reply me as soon as possible. Because we actually don't know what is wrong with us?

Strict Kruger Sperm Analysis
by: Amelia Hirota

Hi Alpa,
Thank you for the details on your husband's sperm. It appears that the numbers are low. It seems that these are not strict Kruger parameters, which is a more critical way of evaluating sperm. Please do correct me if I'm wrong and the semen analysis was done according to strict Kruger standards.

On the 2 IUI cycles the count per million is between 20 - 30 million, which is low, as is the motility. Ideally, you'd like over 60 million per ml and 65% motility. When morphology isn't measured according to strict Kruger standards, it's really hard to assess the morphology. I fear that the morphology would be below 5% on a strict Kruger scale, which is terribly low. That would mean that 95% are abnormally formed.

Hi Amelia, I have also been diagnosed with low ovarian reserve with an AMH test. My question is since I can't conceive naturally, whether or not acupuncture will help in my situation? Will it help with a better response to medications thereby producing more eggs with potentially good egg quality to have a healthy child? What do you think of acupuncture and low ovarian reserve? Thank you for your assistance, Shelley

In my opinion acupuncture is better than Boston IVF. I started seeing Amelia Hirota at the Center of Balance after I had gone through 6 IVF cycles with 3 transfers. My last cycle ended with a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Learn why Samantha feels that acupuncture worked better than Boston IVF for her.

Dear Amelia, My name is Heather and I've been seeing an acupuncturist that I really like here in San Diego. I recently completed a comprehensive female hormone panel saliva test and it showed that I have high testosterone levels. I was told that I have too much sugar in my diet with possible PCOS. What do you think about high testosterone levels and PCOS?

Dear Amelia, I have uterine fibroids and I had a myomectomy when I was 27. My goal in to get pregnant and shrink the fibroids without undergoing another surgery. Please let me know what you think my coarse of action should be. Learn the answer to Oneka's question, "can acupuncture shrink uterine fibroids?" and ask your own questions too.
