Miscarriage, Acupuncture and No Period

by Molly
(Portland, OR)

Hi Amelia,
I used acupuncture after having a late miscarriage at 13 weeks. The acupuncture brought my period back after one treatment and I immediately became pregnant with my little boy Harry, who will two at the beginning of August.

I went back for acupuncture last February, but I didn't get a period that month, or in March or in April afterwards. I didn't get pregnant either. That's the first time thats ever happened to me.

I had my blood tested and they said that it was fine, but I don't think it's fine!! My period has come back in May and June and I have used ovulation sticks to work out my most fertile days, but no success either month.

I am due to ovulate within the next 5 days, and wonder should i go for acupuncture again before ovulation? I will be 41 on the 29th of June.

Also, do you advise going for acupuncture a few days AFTER ovulation also? I would be very grateful to hear from you and and see what you think or advise about my situation.

Many thanks!
Molly

Lucky with Acupuncture
by: Amelia Hirota

Hi Molly,
I think that you were incredibly lucky with acupuncture the first time around. Did you have one treatment and get pregnant? Also, did you only have one treatment in February to try to restart your period?

It's important to remember that both miscarriage and pregnancy are very hard on the body. And, while it's been 2 years since the birth of your son, the irregularity of your cycle indicates that there is some imbalance going on.

Trying to time acupuncture right before ovulation is a short sighted approach to using acupuncture to enhance your fertility. I would recommend getting weekly treatments and taking personalized herbal formulas to address what is going on with your body.

Are you charting? At the very least, I would recommend charting your cycle to see when you're ovulating and how long your luteal phase is.

I'm not really concerned about your age, since you conceived so easily 3 years ago, so I recommend deeply nourishing your body and working closely with an experienced acupuncturist, who can help you understand your fertility signs and state of health. If you have further questions, please feel free to respond in the comments section.

Hi Amelia, I have also been diagnosed with low ovarian reserve with an AMH test. My question is since I can't conceive naturally, whether or not acupuncture will help in my situation? Will it help with a better response to medications thereby producing more eggs with potentially good egg quality to have a healthy child? What do you think of acupuncture and low ovarian reserve? Thank you for your assistance, Shelley

In my opinion acupuncture is better than Boston IVF. I started seeing Amelia Hirota at the Center of Balance after I had gone through 6 IVF cycles with 3 transfers. My last cycle ended with a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Learn why Samantha feels that acupuncture worked better than Boston IVF for her.

Dear Amelia, My name is Heather and I've been seeing an acupuncturist that I really like here in San Diego. I recently completed a comprehensive female hormone panel saliva test and it showed that I have high testosterone levels. I was told that I have too much sugar in my diet with possible PCOS. What do you think about high testosterone levels and PCOS?

Dear Amelia, I have uterine fibroids and I had a myomectomy when I was 27. My goal in to get pregnant and shrink the fibroids without undergoing another surgery. Please let me know what you think my coarse of action should be. Learn the answer to Oneka's question, "can acupuncture shrink uterine fibroids?" and ask your own questions too.
