Interesting and Informative Speaker

by Tracy Kleinberg
(Madison, CT)

I really enjoyed your talk at the Women and Infant's Conference on March 14th on acupuncture and pregnancy. As a childbirth educator, I look forward to bringing a lot of the information I learned to my clients, so they can have as many options as possible when dealing with different issues, involving their pregnancies and labors.

I felt that the workshop portion, where we learned the different acupressure points was the most interesting part and will probably be most helpful to me in my classes. I did have a question about teaching the techniques though. Many of the points are not to be used during pregnancy, how can I teach these effectively in my classes with pregnant women who aren't ready to go into labor?

I am very interested in this subject. I find it all quite fascinating and I look forward to receiving your list of resources to further my own education on the subject.

Thank you,
Tracy

Acupuncture and Pregnancy Presentation
by: Amelia Hirota

Hi Tracy,
In answer to your question, I often teach these points to couples during the pregnancy. I focus more on the action and the location of each point, without pressing hard. Once both individuals are comfortable with the location and the action, the woman can press the points on her partner, to give him/ her a feeling of what the point feels like. It's very helpful for the person that will be performing the acupressure to "receive" a treatment.

It helps to solidify the knowledge in the brain kinesthetically. Possibly this may be why you enjoyed the workshop portion of my presentation. I find that focusing on sets of points for certain issues helps with most men's brains. These sets could include points that help regulate contractions, help the baby descend down the birth canal, and reduce pain. I wish you the best in including this material in your classes. Debra Betts is the acupuncturist and nurse that has organized this material so well and you'll find her book, many of her articles and her wonderful website listed in your resource packet.

With warm regards,
Amelia Hirota

Hi Amelia, I have also been diagnosed with low ovarian reserve with an AMH test. My question is since I can't conceive naturally, whether or not acupuncture will help in my situation? Will it help with a better response to medications thereby producing more eggs with potentially good egg quality to have a healthy child? What do you think of acupuncture and low ovarian reserve? Thank you for your assistance, Shelley

In my opinion acupuncture is better than Boston IVF. I started seeing Amelia Hirota at the Center of Balance after I had gone through 6 IVF cycles with 3 transfers. My last cycle ended with a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Learn why Samantha feels that acupuncture worked better than Boston IVF for her.

Dear Amelia, My name is Heather and I've been seeing an acupuncturist that I really like here in San Diego. I recently completed a comprehensive female hormone panel saliva test and it showed that I have high testosterone levels. I was told that I have too much sugar in my diet with possible PCOS. What do you think about high testosterone levels and PCOS?

Dear Amelia, I have uterine fibroids and I had a myomectomy when I was 27. My goal in to get pregnant and shrink the fibroids without undergoing another surgery. Please let me know what you think my coarse of action should be. Learn the answer to Oneka's question, "can acupuncture shrink uterine fibroids?" and ask your own questions too.
