Infertility and PCOS

by Monika Spacirova

Dear Amelia,
I'm a 25 year old young woman with infertility and PCOS. I have been in my relationship for 5 years. I have had all of my hormone and diagnostic tests done. The only problem I have is that I have PCOS or PCOD and this may be why it is difficult for me to get pregnant. Can you please tell me name of some medicine that I can take so that I will get pregnant? I hope to hear from u soon.

Regards,
Monica

Infertility and PCOS
by: Amelia Hirota

Hello Monica,
Infertility and PCOS is a common combination in infertility cases. PCOS or PCOD are affecting more and more young women. I just read a study from Australia that found that 50% of young women had cysts on their ovaries.

You have two things going for you. One, you're young and your body will probably respond rather quickly to a good, comprehensive wellness plan. Two, you only have PCOS without any accompanying hormonal imbalances.

So, I have a few questions for you.

1. Do you get your period?
2. What is the length of your cycle from Day 1 of bleeding until the last day before your next period?
3. Have you charted your cycle using a BBT thermometer? If so, what does your chart look like?
4. What is your height and weight?
5. What kind of exercise do you do and how often?

If you're having a period, you'll be ahead of the game. It will only be a matter of regulating your cycle and promoting a timely ovulation.

So, there is no magic medicine for PCOS. There aren't even any magic herbs. Insulin resistance is a component of PCOS, so avoiding sugar and simple carbohydrates is important. Also, exercise has been found to be more helpful in regulating the cycle than the drug, Metformin.

If you answer the questions above, I'd be happy to give you some more advice. Also, I encourage you to find an acupuncturist that specializes in gynecology or fertility in London. There is definitely hope for you. However, it's very important for you to find balance. I hope to hear from you again through the comments here.

Sending baby dust your way,
