Improve Fertility with Diet

I want to know how can I improve my fertility with correct eating habits? I want to get natural sources of foods containing estrogen and progesterone. Also, I'd like to know supplements and minerals that can improve follicle development.

Hi Susan,
To improve your fertility with diet, don't focus on foods that contain hormones. We don't replenish our hormones by eating them. Actually, foods high in phytoestrogens like soy harm the reproductive system.

A fertility promoting diet is simply eating a clean, nourishing diet, while avoiding chemicals that harm the body. Most couples conceive within 6 months of starting a solid fertility diet, as long as there aren't functional infertility issues.

Avoiding caffeine, smoking, diet foods, artificial sweeteners like aspartame and splenda, decaffeinated products, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, alcohol, MSG and processed foods is paramount to insuring nourishment of the eggs and sperm.

Consuming organic foods like meats, eggs, whole grains, vegetables and fruits form the basis for a holistic fertility diet.

As for supplements, I recommend 2000 mg of EPA and DHA in fish oil a day for both men and women. A good probiotic like kefir is also helpful for balancing hormones, especially in cases of excess estrogen. Jorge E. Chavarro of Harvard University found that eating a diet of whole foods as I listed above significantly improved the fertility of men and women.
