Chinese herbal medicine is effective in balancing hormones and enhancing fertility. One major factor that is instrumental in an effective treatment strategy is prescribing according to the phases of the menstrual cycle. Herbal Strategy for Phase 1
Phase 1 in the menstrual period and corresponds to the beginning of the cycle charted in a BBT chart. During phase 1, we want to slough off the old endometrium and prepare a smooth trilaminar surface for the successful implantation of a fertilized egg. Herbs taken during this phase are focused on promoting an efficient and clearing period.
Herbal Strategy for Phase 2
Phase 2 is the follicular phase between the period and ovulation. During phase 2, we want to build up the nourishing yin fluids in the body. Herbs taken during this phase are focused on nourishing the follicles and improving the production of cervical mucus.

Phase 3 is the ever important ovulatory phase. During phase 3, we want to support an efficient ovulation. Herbs taken during this phase are focused on supporting the various processes that occur in ovulation.

Phase 4 is the luteal phase after ovulation. During phase 4, we want to nourish the yang energy in the body. Herbs taken during this phase are focused on supporting the corpus luteum and maintaining elevated temperatures in the body.
