Diagnosed with PCOS

by Melica

Hi Amelia,
I have been pregnant twice. I got pregnant in 2000 and in 2003. Both times I did a home abortion for both pregnancies using cytotec tablets. I never needed a DNC. Now I have been diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and am trying to get pregnant. Is there anything that you could suggest for me to do to help me get pregnant? I look forward to reading your response.

Hello Melica,
There are a number of things that can be helpful for PCOS. It seems that you were getting pregnant relatively easily before, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to get your body back to that state of balance. The severity of PCOS is really what determines the likelihood of you getting pregnant. Are you still getting your period? If so, how regular is it?
If your cycle is relatively regular, meaning you get a period every 30 - 60 days, you have a decent chance of beating the PCOS. Because PCOS has an aspect of insulin resistance to it, diet and exercise are very important. I recommend an hour of cardio exercise everyday. Also, you need to eliminate sugar and simple carbohydrates like breads, pasta, potatoes and sweets.

Feel free to answer my questions above in the comments section and I'd be happy to respond further.

Sending baby dust your way,
