Conceiving at Age 45

by Lori Herrera
(Mililani, HI)

Dr. Amelia,
I am currently 45 years old. My husband and I married at age 40. I had a miscarriage (blighted ovum) at 10 weeks. Then I had a healthy baby girl at age 41, chemical miscarriage at 42, another healthy baby girl at age 43, a miscarriage at 8 weeks at age 44, and just recently I lost a baby boy at 18 weeks. The autopsy revealed he had Down Syndrome.

I am having a hard time believing I can't have a healthy baby boy at age 45. My doctors say I am very fertile for my age, so I don't think I need help with infertility. I would really like to try again one more time for a baby boy. However, I am concerned now that my eggs may not be healthy enough.

I have read a lot about acupuncture, and was wondering if you think it might help me in my situation? If so, can you recommend someone here on Oahu for me to see right away. I would like to try again very soon, as I am not getting any younger. I look forward to hearing what you might think.

Aloha,
Lori

Acupuncture Referral in Hawaii
by: Amelia Hirota

Aloha Lori,
Your story is heart wrenching and inspiring. I especially admire your belief in your body. Good for you! It does seem very apparent that you're extremely fertile.

The issue may lie with building your body back after giving birth twice and having the recurrent miscarriages. I do think that acupuncture as a part of a solid TCM program would be helpful to you. It's incredibly important for you to nourish your body with a stellar diet and some powerful herbs that are personally formulated for you.

I recommend that you contact Dr. Xiaoqing Yang Hodge, who's a gifted acupuncturist in Honolulu. Her contact info is as follows:

Dr. Xiaoqing Yang Hodge
4788 Aukai Ave.
Honolulu HI 96816
Tel: 808.392.8423

Also, you may want to read the book, The Biology of Belief by Dr. Bruce Lipton. I think that you'll really enjoy this book. I wish you the very best of luck. Let me how your journey proceeds.

Aloha,
Amelia Hirota

Hi Amelia, I have also been diagnosed with low ovarian reserve with an AMH test. My question is since I can't conceive naturally, whether or not acupuncture will help in my situation? Will it help with a better response to medications thereby producing more eggs with potentially good egg quality to have a healthy child? What do you think of acupuncture and low ovarian reserve? Thank you for your assistance, Shelley

In my opinion acupuncture is better than Boston IVF. I started seeing Amelia Hirota at the Center of Balance after I had gone through 6 IVF cycles with 3 transfers. My last cycle ended with a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Learn why Samantha feels that acupuncture worked better than Boston IVF for her.

Dear Amelia, My name is Heather and I've been seeing an acupuncturist that I really like here in San Diego. I recently completed a comprehensive female hormone panel saliva test and it showed that I have high testosterone levels. I was told that I have too much sugar in my diet with possible PCOS. What do you think about high testosterone levels and PCOS?

Dear Amelia, I have uterine fibroids and I had a myomectomy when I was 27. My goal in to get pregnant and shrink the fibroids without undergoing another surgery. Please let me know what you think my coarse of action should be. Learn the answer to Oneka's question, "can acupuncture shrink uterine fibroids?" and ask your own questions too.
