Can Acupuncture Treat High FSH?
by: Amelia

Hello Hamera,
Thank you for your question. Are you a Manchester United fan? Many of my Malaysian friends are crazy about Manchester United.

Anyway, back to acupuncture. A high FSH comes about because of the feedback loop from the ovaries to the pituitary gland. The developing follicles produce estrogen. This estrogen triggers the production of FSH by the pituitary gland. Low estrogen translates as reduced eggs or ovarian function and hence the pituitary gland ramps up its production of FSH to stimulate the ovaries.

In Chinese medicine we use herbs, dietary therapy, acupuncture and meditation to nourish the follicles. Often these nourishing treatments result in a lowered FSH reading. FSH fluctuates greatly, as do most of the hormones in the body. When a woman skips meals, goes to bed late, experiences high levels of stress and basically doesn't take care of herself, hormones and the overall state of health suffer. Therefore, acupuncture as part of a comprehensive wellness plan can help normalize hormonal levels and you may see lowered FSH levels.

On the other hand, if a woman has been nourishing herself, has a good period, has historically had a regular menstrual cycle and is over 35 year old with a high FSH (over 20), this may indicate reduced ovarian reserve. Acupuncture can not improve ovarian reserve, but it does improve blood circulation around the ovaries and uterus and hence bring nourishment to the eggs that are there.

I hope this is helpful to you Hamera.

Sending baby dust your way,

Hi Amelia, I have also been diagnosed with low ovarian reserve with an AMH test. My question is since I can't conceive naturally, whether or not acupuncture will help in my situation? Will it help with a better response to medications thereby producing more eggs with potentially good egg quality to have a healthy child? What do you think of acupuncture and low ovarian reserve? Thank you for your assistance, Shelley

In my opinion acupuncture is better than Boston IVF. I started seeing Amelia Hirota at the Center of Balance after I had gone through 6 IVF cycles with 3 transfers. My last cycle ended with a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Learn why Samantha feels that acupuncture worked better than Boston IVF for her.

Dear Amelia, My name is Heather and I've been seeing an acupuncturist that I really like here in San Diego. I recently completed a comprehensive female hormone panel saliva test and it showed that I have high testosterone levels. I was told that I have too much sugar in my diet with possible PCOS. What do you think about high testosterone levels and PCOS?

Dear Amelia, I have uterine fibroids and I had a myomectomy when I was 27. My goal in to get pregnant and shrink the fibroids without undergoing another surgery. Please let me know what you think my coarse of action should be. Learn the answer to Oneka's question, "can acupuncture shrink uterine fibroids?" and ask your own questions too.
