Comment Hello Hamera, Thank you for your question. Are you a Manchester United fan? Many of my Malaysian friends are crazy about Manchester United. Anyway, back to acupuncture. A high FSH comes about because of the feedback loop from the ovaries to the pituitary gland. The developing follicles produce estrogen. This estrogen triggers the production of FSH by the pituitary gland. Low estrogen translates as reduced eggs or ovarian function and hence the pituitary gland ramps up its production of FSH to stimulate the ovaries. In Chinese medicine we use herbs, dietary therapy, acupuncture and meditation to nourish the follicles. Often these nourishing treatments result in a lowered FSH reading. FSH fluctuates greatly, as do most of the hormones in the body. When a woman skips meals, goes to bed late, experiences high levels of stress and basically doesn't take care of herself, hormones and the overall state of health suffer. Therefore, acupuncture as part of a comprehensive wellness plan can help normalize hormonal levels and you may see lowered FSH levels. On the other hand, if a woman has been nourishing herself, has a good period, has historically had a regular menstrual cycle and is over 35 year old with a high FSH (over 20), this may indicate reduced ovarian reserve. Acupuncture can not improve ovarian reserve, but it does improve blood circulation around the ovaries and uterus and hence bring nourishment to the eggs that are there. I hope this is helpful to you Hamera. Sending baby dust your way, Amelia Hirota Licensed and Board Certified Acupuncturist and Chinese Herbalist
