Better than Boston IVF!

by Samantha
(Providence, RI)

In my experience acupuncture is better than Boston IVF. I started seeing Amelia Hirota at the Center of Balance after I had gone through 6 IVF cycles with Boston IVF with 3 transfers. My last cycle ended with a miscarriage at 6 weeks.

I had unexplained infertility. When I had my initial visit with Amelia, I knew that I was venturing into a completely different experience than I'd had with my doctor. She really took the time to explain what was happening with my body and she pushed me hard to chart my cycle. Under her direction, I completely changed my diet, my bedtime and my exercise program. I took lots of herbs, meditated and had acupuncture once a week.

I immediately felt like a different person. I've had terrible PMS my whole life and am an anxious person. When I got my first period, it just didn't feel like my period. I know this sounds weird, but it was completely different. My husband and my coworkers even noticed the difference in me. I just wasn't the stress case they were used to.

I saw Amelia for 5 menstrual cycles before I became pregnant. Once I was pregnant, I continued seeing her until my 2nd trimester. There were a few scary times when I spotted, but after the acupuncture and a few days of herbs, I stopped spotting. It's a small miracle that I'm pregnant. After everything that I went through with IVF, I had lost hope of having a baby.

I'm in my 28th week now and have had a pretty good pregnancy. It's been hard not to worry, but I'm feeling pretty secure now. If you're thinking of trying acupuncture or working with Amelia, I would highly recommend it. It's a lot of work, but worth it when you start to really understand your body.

Good luck to all of you out there!
Samantha

Hi Amelia, I have also been diagnosed with low ovarian reserve with an AMH test. My question is since I can't conceive naturally, whether or not acupuncture will help in my situation? Will it help with a better response to medications thereby producing more eggs with potentially good egg quality to have a healthy child? What do you think of acupuncture and low ovarian reserve? Thank you for your assistance, Shelley

Dear Amelia, My name is Heather and I've been seeing an acupuncturist that I really like here in San Diego. I recently completed a comprehensive female hormone panel saliva test and it showed that I have high testosterone levels. I was told that I have too much sugar in my diet with possible PCOS. What do you think about high testosterone levels and PCOS?

Dear Amelia, I have uterine fibroids and I had a myomectomy when I was 27. My goal in to get pregnant and shrink the fibroids without undergoing another surgery. Please let me know what you think my coarse of action should be. Learn the answer to Oneka's question, "can acupuncture shrink uterine fibroids?" and ask your own questions too.
