Acupuncturist and Infertility

by Joann
(South Setauket)

Hi Amelia,
I am currently seeing an Acupuncturist, who is qualified and does a very thorough job with me. My concern is that she does not have experience with infertility.

Should I consult another Acupuncturist who has experience with treating infertility and has a success rate with infertility patients? Also, is once a week sufficient for infertility acupuncture?

Thanks for your help,
Joann

Acupuncturist and Infertility

Hi Joann,
I appreciate your questions about the importance of finding an acupuncturist that specializes in treating infertility. First, it's great that you have a thorough acupuncturist that you trust. If you and your partner have mild fertility issues, you may do fine with general acupuncture that addresses your body more globally.

However, if you have been trying to conceive for awhile and there are more serious fertility issues, I would recommend working with an acupuncturist that has experience treating infertility.

In my seminars and through my website, I meet many women, who are getting acupuncture for their fertility issues. I'm surprised at how seldom I hear of an acupuncturist that is utilizing a holistic fertility program based on TCM. I'm sad when I hear that acupuncturists are not encouraging their patients to chart their BBT, don't use personalized herbal formulas, fail to discuss dietary therapy in detail or skip over the importance of lifestyle.

Many of these women are seeing acupuncturists that "specialize" in treating infertility. Therefore, I encourage you to be selective in choosing your fertility acupuncturist. Lastly, in answer to your question, I do feel that acupuncture treatments once a week are sufficient, when they are part of a holistic fertility program. Generally, I see my patients get pregnant in 3-6 months for minor subfertility and in 6-12 months with more serious fertility issues.

Hi Amelia, I have also been diagnosed with low ovarian reserve with an AMH test. My question is since I can't conceive naturally, whether or not acupuncture will help in my situation? Will it help with a better response to medications thereby producing more eggs with potentially good egg quality to have a healthy child? What do you think of acupuncture and low ovarian reserve? Thank you for your assistance, Shelley

In my opinion acupuncture is better than Boston IVF. I started seeing Amelia Hirota at the Center of Balance after I had gone through 6 IVF cycles with 3 transfers. My last cycle ended with a miscarriage at 6 weeks. Learn why Samantha feels that acupuncture worked better than Boston IVF for her.

Dear Amelia, My name is Heather and I've been seeing an acupuncturist that I really like here in San Diego. I recently completed a comprehensive female hormone panel saliva test and it showed that I have high testosterone levels. I was told that I have too much sugar in my diet with possible PCOS. What do you think about high testosterone levels and PCOS?

Dear Amelia, I have uterine fibroids and I had a myomectomy when I was 27. My goal in to get pregnant and shrink the fibroids without undergoing another surgery. Please let me know what you think my coarse of action should be. Learn the answer to Oneka's question, "can acupuncture shrink uterine fibroids?" and ask your own questions too.
