Acupuncture and Blocked Tubes Due to Tubal Ligation

by Lyzette
(London, England)

Dear Amelia,
I had tubal ligation in 2001 and would like to have a baby with my new husband. I went for an HSG scan and was told that the hospital won't do a reversal tubal ligation due to my age, which is 34. They told me that because I have a daughter I am not entitled to free NHS IVF treatment.

My friend advised me to go to a Chinese clinic for acupuncture and herbal treatment to unblock my tubes. I have already started the treatment in one of the Chinese clinics. Is it possible to conceive again?

Acupuncture and Tubal Ligation
by: Amelia Hirota

Hello Lyzette,
You're the second person to recently ask about the use of acupuncture to reverse a tubal ligation. I know that there are a number of different procedures used in a tubal ligation and they seem to make use of strong materials like plastic rings around the fallopian tubes.

I have never heard of acupuncture or Chinese herbs successfully reversing a tubal ligation. If anyone reading this knows of a case, please do respond in the comments section.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs can help open up blocked tubes due to excess secretions in the fallopian tubes. However, a tubal ligation is a very precise procedure that is designed to last a lifetime and I just can't fathom how acupuncture or Chinese herbs are going to open up tubes that are closed with external materials.

If you are working with a particular clinic, I would discuss this thoroughly with your acupuncturist. Please make sure that your acupuncturist is aware that you've had tubal ligation and that this is not just a case of blocked tubes.

I'm concerned that since you're in England, that you may have a native Chinese acupuncturist and there may be a language barrier.

Find out what kind of tubal ligation you had and see if you can find a picture online of the particular procedure that you had done. Take this picture to your acupuncturist and see if they have reversed this type of tubal ligation. If so, please do let me know in the comments section here, as this would be the first case that I've heard.

Good luck to you!

The colon cleanse from Blessed Herbs is great! I've done lots of colon cleanses in the past and this one's the real deal! Thanks for the recommendation!

My name is Nicole and I started working with Amelia after not getting my period for several months after going off birth control pills. I had been on and off birth control pills for 10 years and was ready to start trying for a baby.

At 28 years old (and my husband was 29) we could not imagine that we would have problems conceiving. After 3 months and lots of tests with my OBGYN, I was encouraged to try acupuncture because there were no "medical" reasons why I wasn't getting my period.

After just one appointment with Amelia I got my period and after just 3 or 4 months, I was pregnant. I am now 32 weeks and due in September. We are so excited to meet our baby boy!

I would strongly encourage any woman to give acupuncture a try if they are having trouble conceiving or even just having trouble getting their body ready for conception. Best of luck to all of you!
